All mobility scooter and electric wheelchair batteries are 12 volts and are typically installed in pairs to create a 24-volt output. When choosing a mobility battery, there are a few things you’ll need to consider.

  • AGM or Gel:┬áBoth AGM and Gel batteries are ideal for use with mobility devices, as they have a long lifespan and are maintenance-free. The main difference between the two is that Gel batteries have a better cycle life and are ideal for wheelchair users. AGM batteries are more competitively priced and are often the original equipment fitted to scooters.
  • Power output:┬áThe power output of a battery is measured in amp-hours (Ah). The higher the Ah rating, the longer the battery will last. It’s important to check the amp-hour rating of your mobility scooter or wheelchair to ensure you select a battery with the right capacity.

Once you’ve selected the right battery, it’s important to follow proper charging procedures to get the most out of it. Always use the charger that came with your battery or one that is specifically designed for your model. Never overcharge or undercharge your battery, as this can shorten its lifespan.
